Every day you go about your life, living in a way that makes sense to you. You get up, you eat, you breathe, you do stuff, and you sleep.
We all do.
The way you choose to go about your days – the things you choose to do – make up your lifestyle. This includes your daily routines, your habits, what you eat and drink, your work, your free time …
What is an anxiety-reducing lifestyle?
For some people, their lifestyle is a deliberate choice they make, so that they can live their life with intention and be the best they can be.
For other people, their lifestyle is a mixture of old habits and knee-jerk reactions to whatever comes up.
And some of us are in the middle.
An anxiety-reducing lifestyle is a lifestyle that moves you a little further away from the ‘old habits and knee-jerk reactions’ group, and a little closer to ‘living with intention’. It is about introducing new habits or routines into your life which serve you to live a freer, calmer existence.
Why is it good to live with intention?
An intention is a choice you make. Living with intention means choosing how you would like to live your life.
Living a life of your choosing is empowering, exciting and satisfying. It is about realising that you are the driver of your life. You are in control, and you can choose to go, do, eat, see, hear, think and feel whatever it is that works best for you.
It also means you realise that the situations you find yourself in are your responsibility. You are where you are because of the choices you have made in the past, and you will get where you get because of the choices you make now and in the future.
How to begin your new lifestyle
If your life up to this point has felt like something that has somehow happened to you, the idea of living with intention may seem overwhelming. There may be so many facets of your life that could be worked with and improved upon that you feel you have no idea where to start – or even if it’s worth starting at all!
You may, on the other hand, be ready to embrace a handful of new habits into your life right now.
Regardless of how you are feeling about making changes to your lifestyle, please remember that you don’t have to do it all right now. Every step will take you toward your goal. I have an annoying habit of trying too much, too soon, and sending myself into overwhelm. This serves only to land me right back where I started from – sometimes even further behind.
The key, therefore, is one step at a time. Make a small change to your lifestyle, and when it feels integrated, add another.
What shall I change?
There are many different aspects of your lifestyle that you may feel compelled to change. Begin by identifying one.
Decide what you will change, how you will change it, and begin doing it. Have fun with it. Remind yourself that you are making this change so you can improve your life. Congratulate yourself on taking this step.
